UK Herb Production

The Herb Field was first created in 1984. It was a slow process, as the site was covered with brambles and bailer twine, a legacy from the dairy farm that had stood there prior to OHTC acquiring the land. The only thing worth saving was a group of Elders.

Today the Herb Field is a thriving two acres of raised beds, growing over 100 varieties of organic medicinal herbs – the Elders still remain! The diverse range of freshly grown herbs promotes immense bio-diversity, providing a natural habitat for many native creatures and insects. We have two Beehives, five rescue Hedgehogs with more arriving this year, not to mention the birds, ladybirds, frogs, toads, newts and many different species of Butterflies,

This type of herb production is now quite rare within the UK. The herbs we grow are used for both medicinal and culinary purposes, but additionally we are providing products for natural dyes, pet food, alcoholic drinks and cosmetics.

Variety

We sell the herbs from the field as fresh or dried, chopped or whole. We also supply our tincture and macerated oil manufacturing department with herbs straight from the field – you couldn’t get fresher!

For a full list of our available Fresh Herbs from the Herb Field, please see our full list on the 'Products and Price List' drop down menu. All of our Herb Field produce is listed under 'Fresh Herbs'.

Contract Growing & Trials

In addition, our Herb Field Manager, Sarah, is always happy to discuss contract grows and herb yield and variety trials for individual customers.

Volunteering

We are helped hugely each season by volunteers / WWOOFers (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) with the growing, harvesting and drying of the herbs. Without them we couldn’t do it!

If you would like to discuss any aspect of our herb field, please feel free to contact Sarah at sarahw@organicherbtrading.com
