UK Herb Production
The Herb Field was first created in 1984. It was a slow process, as the site was covered with brambles and bailer twine, a legacy from the dairy farm that had stood there prior to OHTC acquiring the land. The only thing worth saving was a group of Elders.
Today the herb field is a thriving 2 acres, growing over 100 varieites of organic medicinal and culinary herbs – the Elders still remain! The diverse range of freshly grown herbs promotes immense bio-diversity; providing a natural habitat for many native creatures and insects. We actively encourage new residents and have introduced beehives & rescue hedgehogs.
This type of herb production is now quite rare within the UK. The herbs we grow are used for both medicinal and culinary purposes, but additionally we are providing products for natural dyes, pet food, alcoholic drinks and cosmetics.
We sell the herbs from the field as fresh or dried, chopped or whole.
For a full list of our available Fresh Herbs from the Herb Field, please see our full list on the 'Products and Price List' drop down menu. All of our Herb Field produce is listed under 'Fresh Herbs'.
Contract Growing & Trials
Our Herb Field Manager, Sarah, is always happy to discuss contract growing, herb yields and variety trials for individual customers.
We are helped hugely each season by volunteers / WWOOFers (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) with the growing, harvesting and drying of the herbs. Without them we couldn't do it!
If you would like to discuss any aspect of our herb field, please feel free to contact Sarah at firstname.lastname@example.org
