Certification and Accreditation

Soil Association and National Organic Programme (NOP)

Our organic products are all certified according to the rigorous standards of the Soil Association (licence number P938).which incorporate EC Regulations 834/2007 and 889/2008.  Many are also certified under the National Organic Program (NOP) of the US Department for Agriculture. In addition, we supply a few products which are not eligible for organic certification.

Fairtrade Labelling Organisations International (FLO)

Fairtrade Labelling Organisations International (FLO) is an association of twenty labelling initiatives that promote and market the Fairtrade certification mark in their countries. It is an international system of standards for producers and distributors that ensure farmers and workers in some of the world's poorest countries are adequately protected and can build a more sustainable future.

FairWild Foundation

Wild growing plants form part of our tradition and history, and can be an important source of income for people who do not own their own land.  Increasing demand for wild plants poses a potential risk to the natural populations of certain species, and thus to the livelihoods of the collectors.

The FairWild standards have been developed to address these challenges, promoting the sustainable management and collection of wild plants.  The standards also address fair trade practices, emphasising long term trading relationships and safe working conditions, and incorporating the concepts of a fair price and additional community premium.

British Retail Consortium (BRC)

The BRC standards are a global benchmark for product safety and quality.  We are inspected annually by an accredited third party, which ensures we have an independent review of our Quality Management System and HACCP procedures.  The Organic Herb Trading Company is proud to have maintained its BRC accreditation at Grade A since 2007.
